AT&T, T-Mobile pledge to bring 5,000 jobs to US

WASHINGTON (AP) — AT&T Inc. is pledging to bring 5,000 wireless call center jobs, currently based abroad, back to the U.S. if it is allowed to proceed with its proposed $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA.

The company is also promising that the merger would not result in any job losses for AT&T and T-Mobile USA wireless call center employees who are on the payroll in the U.S. when the deal closes.

Google’s Schmidt attacks British education system

Google chairman Eric Schmidt has attacked the British education system, saying a failure to appreciate the importance of computer science was holding the country back in the digital age.

In a lecture at a broadcasting conference in Edinburgh on Friday, the chairman of the Internet giant accused Britons of “throwing away your great computing heritage” by promoting a separation of arts and sciences in education.

The Blog Network and Content Services Manager works from our San Francisco office and is responsible for overseeing Healthline’s blog network and for assisting the Director of Content Services in managing the identification, acquisition, review, search engine optimization, and publishing on the Web of high-value content (original, repurposed, and licensed) aimed at a health consumer-oriented audience. This individual will work closely with the Product, Engineering, Medical Informatics, and Marketing teams. This is not a remote position.

Healthline is located in San Francisco, one block from Cal Train and the ballpark. The company is growing fast and looking for talented individuals who will grow with us.

Responsibilities

- Manage network of freelance bloggers, medical editors, and reviewers
- Oversee implementation of new content into the Healthline online platform
- Provide regular reporting of search, traffic, and revenue statistics; perform business analysis of these figures, including taking soft P&L responsibility for the blog network and other projects
- Assist the Web designers with user interface research and improvements
- Contribute to analysis of new content opportunities
- Help in assessment of consumer patterns and needs; perform gap analyses

Requirements

- Experience in Web production environment with HTML, XML, and rich-media content systems
- Significant Web publishing experience, especially exposure to Web 2.0 tools and communities (blogs, wikis, social bookmarking, etc.)
- Knowledge of the blogosphere—especially the medical blogosphere
- Substantial experience with MS Excel
- Knowledge of Web statistics and analysis
- Understanding of Web design and content management systems; knowledge of AJAX a plus
- Understanding of search engine optimization
- Understanding of databases, content classification, and categorization (taxonomies and ontologies)
- Project management experience highly desired
- Business analyst background a plus
- Familiarity with medical or health content and content providers desired

Skills/Education

- BA or BS degree and 3-5 years experience in content management
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral
- Ability to handle several projects simultaneously; set and meet deadlines
- Good research and evaluation skills
- Solid business sense
- Facility with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Analytical and problem-solving skills

Startup Spark is an established blog on entrepreneurship and startups in
the b5media Business Channel. It has a steady traffic stream, has been
featured on digg multiple times, and has many subscribers. The blog has
close to 150 posts and a Technorati link of about 6,000. The blog has
grown every month since it was launched and is doing extremely well.

**The Blogger**
The blogger should be both an experienced blogger and entrepreneur
and/or startup executive. We are looking for someone who can continue to
help grow and promote this terrific blog. You do not have to be an award
winning writer, but we are seeking someone who can write well. Someone
