Stamford, Connecticut (MMD Newswire) April 23, 2012 — “If you can speak, you can sing!” So says, Virginia Herrera-Crilly when describing the philosophy behind her new vocal studio Crillera Vocal Studios located in Stamford, Connecticut.
“Singing is the most natural thing in the world. Think of the infant crying for hours in the crib. Does she ever tire, get hoarse or lose her voice?,” she asks. “We ‘unlearn’ the gift of song that is our birthright and the good vocal instructor knows how to uncover the natural abilities we all possess that can make anyone a better singer.”
An opera singer for over 25 years, Virginia Herrera-Crilly has been acclaimed by Opera News as having an “uncommonly beautiful sound,” with “tonal beauty and liquid phrasing.” Her performance career has taken her around the world singing opera, concert and zarzuela programs in Europe and the Americas with renowned conductors including Pablo Zinger, Johannes Somary and Borislav Ivanov. But in recent years her passions have broadened to include teaching.
Ms. Herrera-Crilly opened Crillera Vocal Studios with the mission of providing the kind of world-class training that she enjoyed early in her own career. Her students include novice and seasoned singers as well as the amateur who longs to get a solo in the local church choir.
“It doesn’t matter why you want to sing,” Ms. Herrera says. “Coming to an understanding of your voice’s full potential builds confidence whether your desire is to sing at The Met, in an amateur theatre production or to learn vocal projection for public speaking.”
Ms. Herrera-Crilly trained in major cultural centers worldwide including Monterrey, México; Rome, Italy; and in New York City eventually working with legendary Metropolitan Opera basso Jerome Hines. In part because of her training, she recognizes both the power and the limitations of vocal instruction. “As teachers we are not here to push the voice but to guide the voice where IT wants to go,” she says. “If someone had told me at the start that I would be an opera singer I would not have believed it,” she laughs, “but this is where the voice wanted to take me and I was lucky to have excellent teachers guide me along that path. My mission is to provide that same kind of guidance to my students.”
Crillera Vocal Studios teaches vocal technique to all kinds of students from locations in Stamford, Connecticut and The Bronx, New York.
