Designer/ Developer Position

DLI is looking for a Designer/ Developer (Downtown):

Short version: We’re looking for a person who can design and develop great user interfaces for web-based applications.

How do you like them slashes? If URLs can have’em then why not a job post?

Think those roles can’t go together? s’OK, there are plenty of job ads out there to tantalize those who like to segregate skills (like those funky compartmentalized food plates).

We kinda prefer the mashup approach: a KFC Famous Bowl of talent, interests, and personality. Tasty, and when done right makes your heart beat that much faster (even if it is from the cholesterol).

We need user-centered, standards-based design and (front-end) development for web-based applications. Enough hyphens?

What you’ll be doing:

* Working as a key member of a dynamic small business where versatility, creativity and ownership are prized traits.

* Combining the disciplines of design and usability to create and iterate over intuitive, flexible, _simple_, and functional web-based application user interfaces.

* Leading – by example – other members of the Product Development teams on usability, web standards, and the magic of delight.

What you should know and have:

* Working examples of applications for which you played a significant part in shaping. Extra biscuits for open source work.

* An appetite to learn, innovate, and demonstrate that no seduction from a pointy-haired cube barnacle can elicit with a lame-ass mission statement.

* A skin thick enough to withstand the shelling of ‘suggestions’ but permeable enough to allow the osmosis of your ideas and those of others.

What we’d also like:

* How to achieve the above goals with an arsenal of coding skills in XHTML and CSS. Heck, if you can make Flash do nice things that’s great, too.

* Javascript-Fu. Be able to do battle with the likes of Justin Palmer – even if it’s just a friendly game of WoW.

* Real-world use of AJAX – and when to use it to actual advantage.

* Experience designing and developing for Ruby on Rails apps. That’s mostly what we build (and have been since 2005). You’d be a member of the team and not just someone tossing beauty to some unwashed bit pushers.

About us:

DLI is a NYC-based business (located on the Northern edge of the Financial District) that develops and delivers Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products for both ourselves and select clients.

ScribeStudio is but one example, but there are a slew of new ones on the horizon. We’d like you to help make that horizon get here that much quicker (and better).

We’re also awfully deep into the online media world.

ScribeMedia is the media development and strategy arm of DLI. Maybe you’ve already enjoyed some of our wicked cool videos and pithy commentary.

We’re open to working with freelancers (with a Fed ID, LLC, etc.), design consultancies, and those who may ultimately wish to join us more permanently.

NYC folks are strongly preferred, but Talent, Talent, Talent beats Location, Location, Location.
